The math in school is usually over the limit and we can all agree that it can be really too much in the middle school and after it. But could you imagine that a 3rd grader could get this type of math problem?
A mother of a third grader, Dusty, posted this on Reddit past Tuesday. Clearly, her daughter Izzy needed her help and she couldn’t answer the question for the life of her.
Problem goes like this: “Janell had 15 marbles. She lost some of them. How many does Janell have now?”
It seems like no one had the answer to this problem.
How absurd was this question actually?
One Reddit user wrote, “<15…but I don’t think that’s a fair third-grade question”. While another Reddit user wrote, “The correct answer is, “some””.
Dusty said, “To be honest, I’m unsure if it was printed in error or was a question to test her knowledge of less than and greater than…”
“Being a mother of a third-grader and a fifth-grader, I have seen a lot of homework over the years that has our family laughing at the absurdities, scratching our heads and relying too much on Google”.
No matter how absurd was this question, it brought family together and caused some good laughs online.
